Kannadiga weddings
Kannadiga wedding venues in Bangalore
Karnataka’s own wedding is the one this city hosts most and explains worst. The rite is short, daytime and precise, and almost every demand it makes lands on the building rather than on the decorator. We plan weddings; we are not an authority on anyone’s rite. Your family’s purohit outranks this page, and so does your grandmother. What follows is the common shape and, more usefully, what each part of it needs from a building.
What the rite asks of a building
The wedding rites happen in daylight, at an hour the purohit fixes rather than a date the family picks. That single fact decides the venue. Bangalore’s good mantapas sell their morning slots first and their evening slots afterwards, so a hall that shows free on your date can still be gone for your hour. Book against the hour.
The saptapadi needs a real fire. At a kalyana mantapa or a convention hall that is the building’s ordinary day and nobody blinks; at a hotel it is a property-by-property decision that belongs in the contract rather than in a conversation with a banquet manager who will have moved on by November. The fire question sets out the clause.
Three smaller demands get missed until the morning they matter. In the var puje the bride’s father gifts the groom a silk dhoti and angavastram, which the groom then changes into, so there has to be a proper room to do it in near the mandap and ten minutes in the schedule for it. In the dhare herdu the bride’s parents pour the stream over the couple’s joined hands, which means both parents need to be comfortably inside the mandap footprint rather than perched on its edge. And the akshate shower puts blessed rice across the floor from every hand in the room, which is a real conversation at a property with polished stone and a house rule about it.
Then the food. A Kannadiga wedding table is all vegetarian, and in most families strictly no onion and no garlic, served as yele oota on the banana leaf. Some venues will do that in their own kitchen without argument. Others will not, and then the question becomes whether the family’s own cook can come in, which is a catering-rights question settled before signing rather than after.
Venues in this book that carry a mantapa or mandap on file
These 8 entries record a mantapa or mandap structure in their own file lines, quoted beside each one. A built mantapa is a starting point rather than a finished answer: the hall still gets measured and the mantapa still gets drawn to your rite.
- Amita Rasa Mantapa space for up to 800 guests with grand stage
- Ananda Convention 35-ft ceiling — height for tall mandap and lighting rigs
- Chamara Vajra Rigging height that supports a suspended, pillar-free mandap
- Mandara Weddings & Events Tiered mantapa for traditional muhurtham
- Panchavati Pavilion Iconic 360-degree Mantap — central pavilion for 2,000 guests
- Prangana Kalyani — north-facing stone mandap with lotus pond and large amphitheatre
- Sumatra Asri lawn — 900-guest capacity with mandap by water body
- The Groves by Anjanadri Garden mandap by day, open-air reception after dark
Halls built around the rite
The 10 kalyana mantapas and convention venues on file are buildings designed for exactly this wedding: a hall for the muhurtham, dining that turns over in sittings, and a stage the photographs are taken on. The homa is assumed rather than negotiated, and the morning slot is the product they sell.
- Ananda Convention Hulimavu
- Chamara Vajra Jayamahal Main Road
- Chitrakoot Doddaballapura Main Road
- Clarks Exotica Convention Resort & Spa Near Kempegowda International Airport

Where the family’s own cook can come in
11 venues on file record outside caterers or outside vendors as permitted. That is the line that matters for a wedding where the food has to be onion-free, garlic-free and served on the leaf by people who have done it for this family before.
- Amita Rasa Outside caterers and decorators welcome
- Farmhouse Collective (Farmhouse Social) Outside catering welcome — two service kitchens on site
- Mandara Weddings & Events Full outside-vendor and decor freedom

The muhurtham morning, in order
A morning muhurtham runs backwards from the hour. The purohit needs the mandap set and the fire ready before it; the groom’s welcome and the var puje sit ahead of it; the bride’s entry behind the antarpata, the garlands and the dhare all have to land so that the mangalya dharane happens inside the window rather than near it. In practice that means the hall is ours from before dawn, breakfast service starts as guests arrive rather than after, and the peak the kitchen and the car park have to survive is the muhurtham hour, not the guest total on the invitation.
Where the family is spread across Mysore, Hubli, Mangalore and two time zones, the morning is a transport problem before it is a ritual one. 70 venues on file carry 40 rooms or more, which is the difference between relatives walking down from a room and relatives on Bellary Road at half past four. Moving the wedding through Bangalore has the timing rules.
What we actually do for this sequence
We settle the venue questions in writing before you sign: the hour the hall opens, where the homa may be lit and what it is protected with, whether your caterer may work the kitchen, what happens to the rice on the floor, and which room the groom changes in. We measure the hall and draw the mantapa to it rather than to a catalogue. We set up the bidadi mane, the ritual home arrangement the rites are worked from. And we run the morning itself from the first puja to the last car, against the purohit’s minute rather than a printed schedule that stopped being true at seven.
What should a Kannadiga family look for in a Bangalore wedding venue?
A Kannadiga wedding needs five things from a Bangalore venue. First, the morning slot, because the rites happen in daylight at an hour the purohit fixes and the strong mantapas sell mornings before evenings. Second, permission for the homa in writing, since the saptapadi needs a real fire and hotels decide that property by property while kalyana mantapas assume it. Third, a changing room beside the mandap for the var puje, where the groom changes into the dhoti and angavastram he is given. Fourth, room inside the mandap footprint for the bride’s parents to pour the dhare over the couple’s joined hands. Fifth, a kitchen that will serve an all-vegetarian yele oota without onion or garlic, or a catering-rights clause that lets the family’s own cook do it.
Questions families ask
Which kind of Bangalore venue suits a Kannadiga wedding best?
A kalyana mantapa or a convention hall, in most cases. The building already assumes the homa, the morning slot is the product it sells, and dining that turns over in sittings is how it is designed to feed a full invitation list. A hotel ballroom works too, and suits a family whose list is smaller or whose reception is the larger event, but it turns the homa, the early access hour and the outside-catering question into three separate negotiations that have to be settled before signing.
Can we serve yele oota without onion or garlic at a hotel?
Sometimes in the hotel’s own kitchen, and sometimes only by bringing the family’s cook in, which the hotel may or may not permit. It is a catering-rights question and it is answered in the contract rather than at the tasting. Four venues on file record a purely vegetarian kitchen, and eleven record outside caterers or outside vendors as permitted; both lists are on this page.
How early do we need the hall on the muhurtham morning?
Earlier than most families expect. The mandap has to be set and the fire ready before the purohit starts, the groom’s welcome and var puje sit ahead of the muhurtham hour, and breakfast service begins as guests arrive rather than after. In practice the hall is yours from before dawn, which on a strong muhurat date is a specific thing to buy rather than a favour to ask.
Do we book the date or the venue first?
The date, always, and then the venue inside the same fortnight. The purohit gives you an hour rather than a day, and hall availability on the strong muhurats moves weekly. Wedding dates 2026–27 has the verified calendar and what the date clusters do to hall booking in this city.

Planning a Kannadiga wedding?
Tell us the muhurtham if the purohit has given you one, the guest number and which part of the city the family is in. We come back with halls that fit the rite, not a catalogue.
What happens after you enquire
- A written reply, usually the same day. A short list from the venue book with the rates we hold, a full-wedding estimate rather than a per-plate figure, and the two or three questions your family will need to settle first.
- A call at a time that suits your clock. WhatsApp or video, in your time zone if part of the family is abroad. Date, venue kind, numbers and the muhurtham hour get settled on it.
- Current quotes and date checks from the venues on the list. We confirm availability against your muhurtham date and ask each venue its rules on homa, outside catering and timings before anything is booked. Nothing is booked without you.
